Rockin Bag

Most of the purse is knit in the round with a beautiful i-cord cast on and a three needle bind off to keep it interesting. The handle is made with i-cord and sewn in all the way to bottom of the bag for strength. Line it for a perfect finish.

4 balls Gedifra Distrato or any funky yarns you love (96 yds/ball, worsted weight)
1 button to match
Size 6 circular needle, 16 inches long
3 size 6 double pointed needles
Point protectors

Cast on: The purse starts at the top and is knit to the bottom. Using an i-cord cast on, cast on 120 stitches. PM to show the start of each new round. Here is a good link to instructions for the i-cord cast on. Thanks to Whimsical Knitting for permission to link.

Purse Body: Knit 2 rounds.
Increase Row, *k5, m1.* Repeat between * all the way around. 120 sts.
Knit 5 rows.
Repeat the increase row. You won't be able to complete the increases fully. You should finish with 172 stitches.

Continue to knit around until the bag is 10 inches long. On the next round place a marker after 86 stitches so the stitches are evenly divided between the two markers.

Purse Bottom: Decrease round: K1, k2tog, k to 3 sts before next marker, ssk, k2, k2tog, k to 3 sts before next marker, ssk, k1. K 1 round.
Repeat these 2 rows 2 more times.

Bind Off: On the next round knit one half of the sts onto one of the double point needles and the second half of the sts onto the second double point needle. You may need to use the point protectors to keep the sts from falling off the end that you're not using. With a third needle, bind off the sts using the 3 needle bind off.

Buttonhole: At the top of the purse wherever you want your buttonhole, pick up 10 sts in the row right below the i-cord cast on. Knit 10 rows in stockinette stitch. To make the buttonhole, knit 5 sts, turn, k 5 rows in st st on jut these 5 sts (more rows for a bigger button, fewer for a small button). Keep the 5 sts that you've already worked on the needle but slide them out of your way. Work the same number of rows on the other 5 sts. When the two sides of the buttonhole are the same length, knit across all 10 sts again. K 5 more rows in st st and BO.

I-cord purse strap: CO 6 sts to one of the double pointed needles. Knit in i-cord until the rest of your yarn is gone or until the strap is as long as you want. When you are deciding how long to make it, keep in mind that you're going to sew it all the way down the sides of the purse. Sew the i-cord strap into the bag using regular sewing thread. Start with one end of the strap in the bottom right corner of the purse and sew it all the way up the side. Do the same for the other side.

Line the purse with cloth if you want. It's a good idea to sew the two bottom corners of the lining to the bottom corners of the purse to keep it from pulling out as you use it.
